Star of the North Picture Book Award

We are pleased to announce a brand new picture book award - the Star of the North! (One of Addendum's owners, Marcus, is on the board for this new award). On April 17th, Mackin hosted a special preview night where the 10 nominees for the inaugural 2013 award were presented (but we had to wait until now to share publicly!).

One of the nominees, David LaRochelle, was there to tell us about his nominated book - It's a Tiger! - and to sign copies.

All ten books were available that evening, and it was great to see everyone's reaction to the books that are up for the award!

Skype with Patricia Polacco

Today we attended a Skype visit with Patricia Polacco at Mackin

We received signed copies of Patricia's book Bully. Loved adding this book to our personal collections!

Patricia was wonderful. She made us laugh and she made us cry - she is an incredibly engaging speaker. Her passion for good books and promoting literacy shines through in all that she says. We were honored to participate in this visit with her, and we certainly hope to meet her in person someday!

Thank you to Mackin for arranging this visit and for the signed copies of Patricia's books! We had a wonderful time.

The eighth (and final) author for MELSA's Teens Know Best Author Series was the awesomely hilarious Barry Lyga

The event today was held at Anoka High School

We were thrilled to have Game for sale! It's not out officially till Tuesday, but we were able to have Barry sign copies for his readers and we'll keep them at the store until then. Yay!

Barry's showing off his collection of signing pens here - he matches the colors to his books!

Barry is a great speaker, and talked to the audience about all kinds of things. He had everyone laughing!

After his talk and Q&A he signed books for his readers.

If you weren't able to make it to the event today, we have signed copies of Barry's books available at Addendum.

We had such a fantastic time this weekend - thank you, Barry! We can't wait till you're back in town!

Edited to add: Thank you to Barry for the great post on his blog about today's event!
