Pete Hautman at Addendum!

National Book Award winner Pete Hautman joined us today at Addendum to celebrate the release of the third book in his Klaatu Diskos trilogy - The Klaatu Terminus

We were lucky enough to hear him read from a book he is working on that won't be out for two more years -  we were his first audience!

The excerpt he read was really funny, and we can't wait to read it in its entirety!

A special thanks to all the families who came to spend Mother's Day with us at Addendum. No better way to spend the day than at a bookstore!

After the reading, Pete answered questions from his fans.

Then he was available for signing books.

Pete had a special deal for attendees who purchased at least one book from the trilogy today at Addendum. In his own words:
Free Books.
That's right. I am so desperate for readers I'm GIVING away books on Mothers Day. And you don’t even have to be a mom!
Yes, there is a catch. There’s always a catch, right?
Here’s the catch. You must come to Addendum Books between 1:00 and 2:30 the afternoon of May 11. That’s THIS Sunday. Mom’s Day.
Addendum Books specializes in YA literature, and they know their stuff. The shop is in St. Paul's Cathedral Hill District, at the corner of Selby and Western, in the lower level of the Blair Arcade. It’s tucked into the back of a full size general interest bookstore. It’s a bookstore-within-a-bookstore! It’s like a Tardis, only bookier! (Addendum will be moving into a new space soon—stay tuned!)
I'll be there signing copies of the Klaatu Diskos Trilogy and I might even read a few pages.  Everybody who buys at least one of the trilogy gets a free book from my specially selected backlist of adult titles (Doohickey, Ring Game, Rag Man, or The Prop, as supplies last). Or, if you want to stick with YA, a copy of Full House, an anthology of YA poker-themed short stories that I edited.

I'm doing this because I'd love for people to discover and support Addendum Books, and because I need to make room on my bookshelves. Also, I want to get you all hooked on the Klaatu Diskos trilogy.

A huge thank you to Pete for this very generous offer - everyone loved receiving a gift along with their purchase!

We had a blast today!
If you were unable to make it to the event, you can pick up signed copies of Pete's books at Addendum.

Will Alexander School Visit to Fridley Middle School

The principal introducing Will to the Fridley families in attendance.

Tonight, Fridley Middle School hosted National Book Award winner Will Alexander for a reading, book signing, and ice cream social with families.

Will Alexander with FMS media specialist.

Will read from his book Goblin Secrets. He had planned to read from his newest book, Ghoulish Song, but was so inspired by the masks the students at FMS had made in honor of his visit that he chose to read a passage about masks from his first book.

If you want to make your own masks at home, you can find them on his website right here, courtesy of some of his talented colleagues at MCAD

After the reading, Will answered questions that students (and their parents) had for him.

The staff and families at Fridley Middle School were fantastic! We had such a great evening with them and Will. Thank you to everyone for your support!

Publication Party for Will Alexander's 'Ghoulish Song'

Today Ghoulish Song, the companion book to Goblin Secrets by National Book Award winner William Alexander, was released and we celebrated with a publication party for Will!

The event was held at Dr. Chocolate's Chocolate Chateau, and guests were able to enjoy hot chocolate, treats, ice cream, and drinks from the bar. Everything was delicious!

The fantastic local band Dreamland Faces played as guests arrived, and then again later in the evening.

They had an awesome assortment of instruments, and the music they played matched perfectly with the haunting, ethereal descriptions of music in Will's book.

And in honor of Will's first book, Goblin Secrets, there were masks to be made!

(If you would like to make your own masks at home, you can find them on Will's website right here, drawn by some of his talented colleagues at MCAD).

Guests with their masks!

There was quite a crowd, despite all the snow that fell earlier today, and everyone gathered around to hear Will read from Ghoulish Song

Will's background in theater is apparent as you listen to him read - it is a treat to hear! (In fact, Will did the reading for his audiobooks, so you can check him out yourself on the recordings if you haven't had the good fortune to hear him in person!).

In addition to music, shadows play an important role in Ghoulish Song, hence the little Kaile silhouette adorning our sign!

Throughout the evening, Will was available to sign books and to talk with all the guests who came for the event.

Will also signed some books for the store, so if you weren't able to make it tonight you can stop in at Addendum to pick up your own copy!

We had a blast tonight! It is always a pleasure working with Will, and we were honored to host his publication party. Thanks to all who came and helped make it a memorable evening!
