Mem Fox Visits Minnesota!

Tonight Mem Fox (children's picture book author and education and literacy expert) spoke at the McNamara Alumni Center at the University of Minnesota.

Her talk covered a number of different topics, including her native Australia, how becoming a grandmother has given her many new ideas for her books, and the importance of reading aloud to children.

Mem is such a charming, funny, interesting person. She kept the audience captivated and laughing, and we hung on her every word.

She also read aloud from several of her books. It was wonderful to hear her words and stories in her own voice. She has been involved in theater, and it showed in the way she read - she has such stage presence!

Her most recent book, Tell Me About Your Day Today, is illustrated by our own MN author/illustrator Lauren Stringer!

After the talk, both Lauren and Mem signed copies of Tell Me About Your Day Today.  They were joined by Allyn Johnston, publisher and vice president of Beach Lane Books.

It's not often that the author, illustrator, and editor of a picture book are all in the same city at the same time. Because this was such a special occasion, local author Debra Frasier hosted a party at her home last night to celebrate these three talented women!

It was a wonderful evening, and Debra's home is lovely and inviting. Thank you, Debra, for hosting such an enjoyable get-together!
