Launch Party for Lauren Stringer's YELLOW TIME!

We had the pleasure of working with talented local author and illustrator Lauren Stringer to launch her newest picture book, YELLOW TIME. It's always a joy to work with Lauren, and this event was no exception!

Guests had lemonade and leaf cookies while Lauren explained her process of making the book to us.

We got to peek inside her sketchbooks, and each drawing was a little work of art.

Lauren then read YELLOW TIME to us.

Afterwards, she signed copies of her book for guests, as well as extra signed copies to have at Addendum.

If you haven't had a chance yet to read this lovely fall book, you're missing out! It's not too late to pick up a signed copy at Addendum.

Indies First 2014

Addendum participated in Indies First again this year!

Children's Book Week 2014 at Addendum!

Today is the first day of Children's Book Week, 2014! If you are unfamiliar with CBW, it is the annual celebration of books for young people and the joy of reading.

"Established in 1919, Children's Book Week is the longest-running national literacy initiative in the country. Every year, commemorative events are held nationwide at schools, libraries, bookstores, homes -- wherever young readers and books connect! Each year, bookstores from coast to coast are selected as official event venues." - Book Week Online

We're pleased to announce that Addendum was asked to be one of the official bookstores for 2014! Check out all the official bookstores and their events across the country - for the first time ever all 50 states are participating!

We had our official kick off to CBW yesterday, with Pete Hautman at Addendum. In addition to the amazing book offer from Pete (read our post to find out what it was!), guests also received a free tote and poster for CBW 2014 (see top photo).

If you weren't able to make it Sunday, you have another chance to receive the CBW tote and poster! Join us at The Textile Center (3000 University Ave. SE, Minneapolis 55414) this Thursday, May 15th from 6-8pm. We will be celebrating the release of local author and illustrator Michael Hall's newest book - It's an Orange Aardvark! The Textile Center studio will feature Michael’s giclee prints, paper collages and sketches from published and unpublished work on exhibit from May 15 – 31.

Addendum will be selling books for the event, and we will be handing out free CBW totes and posters, while supplies last!

You can also celebrate CBW with us at another off-site event this weekend - Teen Lit Con! More info tomorrow.

Books For Breakfast 2014

Addendum Books was the official photographer for the 2014 Children's Literature Network Books For Breakfast. Enjoy some of our photos from the day!

Each guest received a little box with a fossil inside (celebrating Catherine Thimmesh's book Scaly, Spotted, Feathered, Frilled about dinosaurs).

Second Story at The Loft 2/28/16 2-4pm

The Loft Literary Center and Addendum Books proudly presented a Second Story Reading with Shannon Gibney and Carrie Mesrobian on Sunday, February 28th from 2:00-4:00pm. Volunteer curated by children’s authors Megan Atwood and Heather Bouwman, Second Story is the Loft’s reading series for young adult, middle-grade, and picture book authors. Perfect for families and readers of all ages, Second Story pairs a first-time author with a more established voice in children’s literature.The event is held at The Loft at Open Book (Performance Hall).

The 2016 Read Brave book was Stick by Andrew Smith. Author Andrew Smith was in town February 24 and 25: Wednesday, February 24, 6 p.m. Author Talk, Sun Ray Library. Thursday, February 25, 6 p.m. Writing Workshop for Teens and Adults, Arlington Hills Community Center. Sarah Ahiers Launch Party 2/5/16 7pm

Thanks to all who joined us on Friday, February 5th at 7:00pm in the Klas Center Kay Fredericks Ballroom at Hamline University (1536 Hewitt Ave, St Paul, MN 55104) to celebrate the launch of Sarah Ahiers debut novel, ASSASSIN'S HEART. Sarah is a Hamline MFAC grad, and this event was in partnership with Hamline. Thank you to everyone who joined us at Addendum Books on Saturday, January 23rd at 11:30am as we welcomed local author Megan Maynor to celebrate her debut picture book, ELLA AND PENGUIN STICK TOGETHER! We celebrated this week in honor of Penguin Day, which was Wednesday, January 20th. "Sometimes all you need is a good friend to help you be brave. Ella has a surprise for Penguin—glow-in-the-dark stickers! But to see the stickers glow, Ella and Penguin must be in the dark. And the dark is so . . . dark! If only they could see the stickers glow in the light—but that won't work. Soon Ella and Penguin find out that if they stick together, they can face anything. Megan Maynor's sweet and lively text, paired with Rosalinde Bonnet's irresistible illustrations, will have readers clamoring for more Ella and Penguin."

On Saturday, December 5th at 7:00pm we welcomed Margi Preus at Addendum to celebrate her newest book, THE BAMBOO SWORD! Perfect for families and readers of all ages, Second Story pairs a first-time author with a more established voice in children’s literature. Weird? You Want Weird? AS King and Andrew Smith in Conversation 11/21/15 1:30-2:30pm

Addendum was at the Merriam Park branch (1831 Marshall Ave, St Paul, MN 55104) of the St. Paul Public Library from 1:30-2:30 for this Read Brave Kick-Off event! A.S. King (our 2013 Read Brave author) and Andrew Smith (our 2016 Read Brave author) were in conversation together: Weird? You Want Weird? A.S. King and Andrew Smith talk about their writing journeys, their processes, their theory of Why over What, and what they really do when they say they're golfing. Q&A to follow--no question is too weird. In partnership with St. Paul Public Library.

Booked for the Evening 11/2/15 6:30pm

On Monday, November 2nd Addendum was at St. Catherine University selling books for their annual Booked for the Evening event! Since 2002, alumnae, educators, librarians, parents, and book lovers have been attending Booked for the Evening for a comprehensive overview of the year’s best books for children and young adults. Alumnae from the St. Catherine Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) program lead the event. Location: Rauenhorst Ballroom at Coeur de Catherine (2004 Randolph Ave. 55105). Free parking is available in the O'Shaughnessy/Event parking lot after 5 p.m. Panelists for the evening included: Gail Nordstrom '81, MLIS '94 Sara Swenson, MLIS '94 Carla Petersen Larsen, MLIS '02 Lisa Howes, MLIS '02. Books highlighted during the program were available for purchase from Addendum Books, co-owned by St. Kate's alumna Katherine Warde '08. Admission: $20 per person $10 discounted price for Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet or members of other religious orders. Free for all students with valid student ID. Contact hours for continuing education credits were available to those who registered in advance.

Minnesota Youth Reading Awards 10/24/15 2-4pm

On Saturday, October 24th from 1:30-4:00pm Addendum was at the Rondo branch of the St. Paul Public Library (461 Dale St. N., St. Paul 55104) to celebrate the 2014-2015 winners of the Maud Hart Lovelace (Division I and Division II) and Star of the North awards! All four winners were in attendance this year: MHL Division I - Stuart Gibbs (BELLY UP), MHL Division II - Marsha Hayles (BREATHING ROOM), Star of the North - David LaRochelle and Mike Wohnoutka (MOO!). On Saturday, October 17th at 3:00pm, Addendum hosted the launch party for Eliza Nolan's debut novel, PHOENIX AWAKENS. On Saturday, October 10th at 7:00pm we held the launch party for Dawn Klehr's newest book, IF YOU WRONG US. The event was held at 1330 Quincy St. NE, Minneapolis. "Becca and Johnny become entangled after a car crash steals the lives of two people they love. Officially, the crash is an accident. But Becca and Johnny are convinced: someone did this. A Book and a Chair - Event with Belle Junque! 10/1/15 5:00-8:00pm

On Thursday, October 1st, we celebrated with our neighbor, Belle Junque! Both stores had specials between 5 and 8pm. We had treats and beverages and there was sidewalk chalk outside. We also had some special deals going on - just this one night! If you purchased something from Addendum between 5 and 8, and showed your receipt at Belle Junque you got 50% off a chair (pictured above)! If you purchased anything from Belle Junque between 5 and 8, and showed your receipt at Addendum you received 20% off your entire purchase! About Belle Junque: "Belle Junque is a small business that focuses on renewing and restyling furniture and home décor. We are an occasional shop located at 474 Cleveland Avenue South in St. Paul. Our market days when the shop is open are always the second Thursday through Sunday of every month. The doors are also open whenever possible throughout the month so that customers can stop in to browse and shop, but the store may not have as much inventory as during the designated market days. The goal is to gather items between market events and create a new look each month. We will have a little of everything—restyled furniture, old home décor, authentic antiques, and industrial lighting—all in a French farmhouse and French flea market style. Our goal is to reuse and repurpose as much as possible, yet we also supplement with new items."

Rob Buyea 9/30/15

Addendum Books hosted Rob Buyea for school visits on Wednesday, September 30th, to celebrate his new book, SAVING MR. TERUPT (Book 1 is BECAUSE OF MR. TERUPT, Book 2 is MR. TERUPT FALLS AGAIN). "The kids from Mr. Terupt’s fifth- and sixth-grade classes are entering their first year of junior high school. There’s a lot to be excited about, but there are new challenges, too. Peter and Jeffrey face tough competition on their wrestling team. Alexia has a disastrous first day of school, and that’s only the beginning. Anna is desperate for Charlie to propose to her mother—what is he waiting for?! Danielle isn’t feeling so well, but she's trying to tough it out, like Grandma. Trouble with a bully makes Luke dread going to school for the first time ever. And Jessica is waiting anxiously for an acceptance to a theater retreat in New York City. Everyone is missing Mr. Terupt. When a fight threatens to break up the group forever, they think their favorite teacher is the only one who can help them. But the kids soon find out that it’s Mr. Terupt who needs saving."

Andrew Smith 9/24/15 7:00pm

Andrew Smith joined us on Thursday, September 24th at 7:00pm to celebrate the release of his newest book, STAND-OFF (sequel to WINGER)! We partnered with St. Catherine University's American Library Assoiciation Student Chapter for this event, which was held at St. Kate's in Coeur de Catherine, room 17. "It’s his last year at Pine Mountain, and Ryan Dean should be focused on his future, but instead, he’s haunted by his past. His rugby coach expects him to fill the roles once played by his lost friend, Joey, as the rugby team’s stand-off and new captain. And somehow he’s stuck rooming with twelve-year-old freshman Sam Abernathy, a cooking whiz with extreme claustrophobia and a serious crush on Annie Altman—aka Ryan Dean’s girlfriend, for now, anyway. Equally distressing, Ryan Dean’s doodles and drawings don’t offer the relief they used to. He’s convinced N.A.T.E. (the Next Accidental Terrible Experience) is lurking around every corner—and then he runs into Joey’s younger brother Nico, who makes Ryan Dean feel paranoid that he’s avoiding him. Will Ryan Dean ever regain his sanity?"

Carrie Mesrobian and Pat Schmatz 9/18/15 7:00pm

On Friday, September 18th, we celebrated the launch of CUT BOTH WAYS by Carrie Mesrobian and LIZARD RADIO by Pat Schmatz. The event was at 7:00pm in Jeanne D'Arc at St. Catherine University (2004 Randolph Ave. St. Paul, MN 55105). CUT BOTH WAYS "is an unflinching look at a high school senior who must come to terms with his attraction to both his girlfriend and his male best friend. It took Will Caynes seventeen years to have his first kiss. He should be ecstatic…except that it was shared with his best friend, Angus, while they were both drunk and stoned. Will’s not gay, but he did sort of enjoy whatever it was he felt with Angus. Unsettled by his growing interest in Angus, Will avoids his friend, and even starts dating a sophomore, Brandy. When he’s hooking up with her, he’s totally into it, so he must be straight, right? Then why does he secretly keep going back to Angus? Confusing as Will’s feelings are, they’re a welcome distraction from his complicated home life. His father has started drinking earlier each day when he should be working on what seem like never-ending house renovations. And his mom—living in a McMansion with her new husband—isn’t much help, just buying Will a bunch of stuff he doesn’t need. Neither feels like much of a parent—which leaves Will on his own in figuring things out with his girlfriend and best friend. He loves them both, but deciding who to be with will ultimately hurt someone. Himself probably the most."

Author and illustrator Elise Parsley was at Addendum on Thursday, July 9th to celebrate her picture book: If You Ever Want to Bring an Alligator to School, DON'T! A Wizard of Their Age: Critical Essays from the Harry Potter Generation 5/3/15 4:00-6:00pm

On Sunday, May 3rd we celebrated A Wizard of Their Age, a collection of Harry Potter essays, edited by Cecilia Konchar Farr. We celebrated in conjunction with Voldemort Defeat Day (May 2nd) and the beginning of Children's Book Week (May 4th-10th)! There were readings by multiple contributors, treats, a costume contest, and more! "A Wizard of Their Age began when the students in Cecilia Konchar Farr’s “Six Degrees of Harry Potter” course at St. Catherine University kept finding errors in the available scholarship. These students had been reading Harry Potter for their entire literate lives, and they demanded more attention to the details they found significant. “We can do better than this,” they said. Konchar Farr, two undergraduate teaching assistants, and five student editors decided to test that hypothesis. After issuing a call for contributions, they selected fifteen thoughtful academic essays by students from across the country. These essays examine the Harry Potter books from a variety of perspectives, including literary, historical, cultural, gender, mythological, psychological, theological, and genetic—there is even a nursing care plan for Tom Riddle. Interspersed among the essays are brief vignettes entitled “My Harry Potter Story,” where students write about their personal encounters with the novels. Although a quick Internet search yields a dazzling number of books about Harry Potter, few are as deeply invested or insightful as A Wizard of Their Age. Written and edited by—and for—members of the Harry Potter generation, these essays demonstrate this generation’s passionate engagement with the Harry Potter phenomenon and provide numerous critical insights into the individual novels and the series as a whole."

On Saturday, March 7th at 7:00pm, Addendum Books hosted the launch of Love & Profanity, which "features more than forty brief, brilliant, and unforgettable true stories from writers both renowned and on the rise. Discover strange and surprising scenes of people coming of age amidst the everyday intensity of teenage life. Witness transformative moments arising from the mundane. Behold the young adult in full splendor and horror, bursting with love and profanity." Editor Nick Healy joined us for the launch party, as did the following authors: Kara Balcerzak, Melissa Brandt, Steve Brezenoff, Ali Catt, Kasandra Duthie, Peter Hautman, Melody Heide, Patrick Hueller, Carrie Mesrobian, Esther Porter, and Trisha Speed Shaskan.

Bryan Bliss Launch Party! 2/27/15 7:00pm

On Friday, February 27th, Addendum Books hosted Bryan Bliss for the launch party for his novel NO PARKING AT THE END TIMES: " Abigail's parents believed the world was going to end. Read Brave - Kekla Magoon 2/25/15 and 2/26/15

On Wednesday, February 25th and Thursday, February 26th, Addendum sold books for all of the Read Brave events. "Read Brave is Saint Paul Public Library’s annual, citywide program encouraging youth and adults to read and come together around a young adult novel. The program encourages intergenerational dialog about thought-provoking contemporary issues facing teens and culminates with a visit by the author to continue the discussion." This year's Read Brave selection was HOW IT WENT DOWN by Kekla Magoon. Thanks to all who picked up the book, read it, and joined us for these events! Panelists included Kekla Magoon; Steve Randall and Tim Simmons, Community Youth Workers; Marjorie Grevious, Penumbra Theater; Jason Sole, former gang member and current PhD candidate and adjunct professor; and Salim Omari and Mark Reding, SPPD. The panel was facilitated by Theresa Neal, Como Park Senior High School Principal.

Second Story at the Loft 12/7/14

On Sunday, December 7th, Addendum sold books at the Second Story reading at the Loft. Second Story is "the Loft’s reading series for young adult, middle-grade, and picture book authors, volunteer curated by children’s authors Swati Avasthi and Heather Bouwman. Perfect for families and readers of all ages, Second Story pairs a first-time author with a more established voice in children’s literature. Typically, 4-6 readings are presented a year, usually on weekend afternoons." On Dec. 7th, the featured authors were Shelley Tougas (The Graham Cracker Plot) and Erin Soderberg Downing (The Quirks).

Indies First 11/29/14

On Saturday, November 29th, our second annual Indies First day took place at Addendum from 9am-9pm. Indies First is "a grassroots movement that calls on authors to show their support for independent bookstores by signing up to work at their favorite bookshops on November 29th, Small Business Saturday." (ABA website). Customers got great book recommendations from favorite local authors as they worked away at the bookstore! (They were willing to sign some of their own books, in addition to recommending their favorites)! Last year, Addendum hosted 26 local authors and had two national authors participate long-distance. Nikki Urang Launch Party 11/15/14

On Saturday, November 15th at 7:00pm we celebrated the launch of local author Nikki Urang's debut novel, THE HIT LIST! At Risk Summer Movie Screening 10/20/14 6:30 p.m. With e.E. Charlton-Trujillo, author of Fat Angie

At-Risk Summer is a feature length documentary about teens mentored at no charge to themselves or their community organizations by young adult author/filmmaker e.E. Charlton-Trujillo in an effort to spark creativity, talk about tough topics, and ignite kids' and teens' voices! The foundation for the unconventional book tour is the novel FAT ANGIE (Candlewick Press, March 2013). Prominent authors for young people have been interviewed to discuss issues of writing for outsiders, bullying, and how they see teens today. The screening was held at Central High School in St. Paul at the corner of Lexington and Marshall. 275 Lexington Pkwy N, St Paul, MN 55105. Author and filmmaker e.E. Charlton-Trujillo was present at the screening and available for a discussion. She also signed books (book sales provided by Addendum Books).

Cory Doctorow 10/19/14 2:00

Best-selling novelist and internationally renowned digital rights advocate Cory Doctorow presented his first graphic novel, In Real Life. This graphic novel tackles the problematic issue of “gold farming” in the video game universe, through a riveting story featuring a young female protagonist named Anda. With gorgeous artwork by cartoonist Jen Wang, In Real Life is a perceptive and high-stakes look at adolescence, gaming, poverty, and culture clash by one of the most visionary authors of our time. Addendum is partnered with Rain Taxi and the St. Paul Public Library, and the event was held at the Rondo Library on Dale and University. A reception followed the event. PLUS: Teen audience members were invited to stay after Cory Doctorow's presentation; mentors from the St. Paul Public Library's Createch sites were there to host a video game tournament!

Juliann Rich Launch Party 6/21/14

On Saturday, June 21st at 7:00pm Addendum hosted the launch party for local author Juliann Rich's book CAUGHT IN THE CROSSFIRE! "Two boys at Bible Camp. One forbidden love. That’s the dilemma Jonathan Cooper faces when he goes away to Spirit Lake Bible Camp, situated along Minnesota’s rugged north shore, for a summer of fun. He is expecting mosquito bites, bonfires with S’Mores, and photography classes with Simon, his favorite counselor who always helps him see life in perfect focus. What he isn’t expecting is Ian McGuire, a new camper who openly argues against phrases like pray the gay away. Ian is certain of many things, including what could happen between them if only Jonathan could surrender to his feelings. Jonathan, however, tosses in a storm of indecision between his belief in God and his inability to stay away from Ian. When a real storm hits and Ian is lost in it, Jonathan is forced to make a public decision that changes his life."

On Saturday, May 24th at 7:00pm, we were pleased to celebrate the release of Geoff Herbach's newest book, FAT BOY VS. THE CHEERLEADERS with a launch party at Addendum Books. "It's geeks versus jocks in an epic battle of the beverages! Here's a brand-new cast of quirky characters, pitting fat boy Gabe against the high school cheerleading team in a battle over control of the school's soda machine. The war is ON! Never have the stakes been so high. Never have the trenches been so deep. Never has one soda vending machine been so vital. When the high school cheerleading team takes over the machine’s funds previously collected by the pep band, Gabe will not stand for it. Something must be done." Also joining us at the event was Jason Good, author of THIS IS RIDICULOUS, THIS IS AMAZING.

Steve Brezenoff 5/22/14

On Thursday, May 22nd at 7:00pm we hosted the launch party for Steve Brezenoff's newest book, GUY IN REAL LIFE. The event was held at Addendum! The release date for the book was May 27th, but the book was available early ONLY at this event. "Lesh and Svetlana, two teens from St. Paul, Minnesota, are adrift in a sea of social coterie, desperate for something to change. When they crash into one another in a drunken bicycle accident at two am, they don’t yet know how close they are to finding it. For now, Svetlana is simply looking for a fifth member to legitimize the Central High School Gaming Club, and Lesh is looking to escape his being grounded for said drunkenness by entering, reluctantly, the world of online role playing games. Lesh’s gaming life takes an interesting turn as, unable to figure out how to speak to Svetlana, he “becomes” her in-game. When real life and in-game life inevitably become entwined, Lesh and Svetlana both start to realize that the lines they draw to keep their lives in order are not so easy to maintain. Especially when they no longer understand why they drew them in the first place."

Teen Lit Con 5/17/14

Thanks to all who joined us on Saturday, May 17th from 10am-4:30pm (doors opened at 9:30am) for the first ever Teen Lit Con (in collaboration with MELSA)! The day was an incredible success! We were joined by national authors: Derf Backderf (My Friend Dahmer), Ally Condie (Matched trilogy), Maureen Johnson (Shades of London books), and David Levithan (Two Boys Kissing), as well as local authors: Swati Avasthi (Chasing Shadows), Anne Greenwood Brown (Lies Beneath trilogy), Catherine Clark (How to Meet Boys), Pete Hautman (The Klaatu Diskos trilogy), Geoff Herbach (Stupid Fast trilogy), and Carrie Mesrobian (Sex & Violence). This all-day event was free and open to the public. The event included: authors, book sales (by Addendum!) and signing, photo booth, exhibits, workshops, hands-on book arts, and food for sale. It was held at: Henry Sibley High School, 1897 Delaware Ave. Mendota Heights 55118.

Michael Hall at the Textile Center 5/15/14

On Thursday May 15, from 6:00-8:00pm we were at the Textile Center (3000 University Ave. SE, Minneapolis 55414) to celebrate Michael Hall's newest book, It's an Orange Aardvark!, and to see his artwork exhibited. Michael Hall is the creator of the nationally best-selling picture book My Heart Is Like a Zoo, the acclaimed Perfect Square, and his most recent book, Cat Tale. He works as a graphic designer, and is co-owner and principal designer at Hall Kelley, Inc. Michael lives in Minnesota with his wife, two daughters, and a pig named Petunia. Textile Center studio will feature Michael’s giclee prints, paper collages and sketches from published and unpublished work on exhibit from May 15 – 31. Addendum had all of his books for sale on opening night.

Pete Hautman 5/11/14

We were so excited to host Pete Hautman for the final installment in his Klaatu Diskos trilogy - THE KLAATU TERMINUS! We celebrated on Sunday, May 11th at 1:00pm with a reading and signing. About Book 1, The Obsidian Blade: Kicking off a riveting sci-fi trilogy, National Book Award winner Pete Hautman plunges us into a world where time is a tool — and the question is, who will control it? Addendum Books hosted an event on Monday, April 21st at 7:00pm with Stuart Gibbs to celebrate his newest book, POACHED, the sequel to BELLY UP. "Teddy Fitzroy is back for another zoo mystery—only, this time, he’s the number one suspect. Kazoo the Koala, the newest star attraction at FunJungle, has been stolen and all the evidence points to Teddy. On Friday, April 18th at 7:00pm, Addendum Books hosted an event with Deb Caletti to celebrate the release of her book THE LAST FOREVER. "Nothing lasts forever, and no one gets that more than Tessa. Public events included: 2/27 - 2:00pm Avalon School (700 Glendale Street, Saint Paul, MN 55114); 2/27 - Como Park Conservatory 7:00pm (Rainforest Auditorium, 1225 Estabrook Dr); 2/28 - 9:30 am St. Paul Central Library Youth Services (90 W 4th St). All events were free and open to the public. At each event, Rainbow discussed her book and then was available for signing. Addendum sold her books at each event. Anne Ursu 2/13/14

On Thursday, February 13th, from 6:30-8:00pm, author Anne Ursu discussed her book The Real Boy as part of the John Lighty Series through Minnesota Life College (event address: Southdale YMCA 7355 York Avenue South Edina, MN 55435). From the MLC event info: "Anne Ursu is a Minneapolis writer of books for young readers and the mother of a young boy with ASD. Her latest book, THE REAL BOY, is a fantasy featuring an orphan boy who works as an apprentice to a magician, and the boy has many characteristics of ASD. Anne will talk about why she wrote this character and about the importance of giving ASD kids novels with characters they can identify with." The event was free and open to the public. Addendum had all of Anne's books available for purchase.

MG + YA Forever: An Evening of Passionate Reading 2/8/14

An event with five local authors on Saturday, February 8th, at 7:00pm at the Fox Egg Gallery (3730 Chicago Avenue S., Minneapolis 55407). The authors were Stephanie Watson (Elvis & Olive, The Wee Hours), Swati Avasthi (Split, Chasing Shadows), Heather Bouwman (The Remarkable and Very True Story of Lucy and Snowcap), Lynne Jonell (Emmy and the Incredible Shrinking Rat, The Secret of Zoom), and Geoff Herbach (Stupid Fast, Nothing Special, and I'm With Stupid). Addendum provided the book sales for the evening. The event was free and open to the public!

Koo Koo Kanga Roo 12/8/13

On Sunday, December 8th, at 2:00pm, Addendum hosted a dance party/sing-a-long/book reading with Koo Koo Kanga Roo! Koo Koo Kanga Roo is an interactive dance party duo from Minneapolis, MN. Since 2008, Koo Koo Kanga Roo have been all over the country putting on shows at preschools, bars, church basements and even nursing homes. The show is centered on acting silly, dancing as hard you can, and sweating. Their first book, Unicorns R Real!, is now out. A book! About how Unicorns are real! They totally are. Bryan and Neil saw one once. Get this beautiful hardcover, full color sing a long book (signed!) at Addendum!

Indies First 11/30/13

On Saturday, November 30th, Addendum participated in Sherman Alexie's Indies First - "a grassroots movement that calls on authors to show their support for independent bookstores by signing up to work at their favorite bookshops on November 30, Small Business Saturday." (ABA website). Andrew Smith and A.S. King participated long-distance by sending signed bookplates to anyone who purchased their book from Addendum on Indies First Day.

Rainbow Rowell (with SPPL and MSU) 10/29/13 & 10/30/13

Addendum Books partnered with St. Paul Public Libraries and Metropolitan State University on three events with Rainbow Rowell. She was the author for the 2014 Read Brave program with SPPL in Feb., but was also here for three events at the end of October. The first event was on Tuesday, October 29th at 6:00pm at MSU Auditorium, Founder’s Hall 700 E 7th St, Saint Paul, MN 55106. It was a community forum on the suppression of young adult literature and kids' right to read. The second event was on Wednesday, October 30th at Avalon School from 12:50-1:50 (open to the public). From 12:50-1:20 Rainbow Rowell read from Eleanor & Park and held a Q&A session. From 1:20-1:50 we Skyped with Acacia O'Connor from Kids' Right to Read project. 700 Glendale Street Saint Paul, MN 55114. The third event was on Wednesday, October 30th at 6:30pm. Rainbow lead a book talk and signed copies of her books. Harriet Island Clarence W. Wigington Pavilion 200 Dr Justus Ohage Blvd, Saint Paul, MN 55107. All events were free and open to the public. Addendum sold books at all three events, and a portion of the proceeds was donated to Kids' Right to Read.

A free day of fun for kids age 10 and under -- and their grown-ups. Attendees discovered tons of fun activities, including live music from Grammy Award-winning The Okee Dokee Brothers, The Bazillions, Paul Spring and Gustafer Yellowgold; presentations by children’s book creators Cori Doerrfeld, Sarah Forss, Michael Hall, Debbie Bernstein LaCroix, and Stephanie Watson; performances, workshops, arts & crafts and more. Merchandise sales were provided by Addendum Books. R&W is a Minnesota Legacy Program.

A.S. King 2/27/13 & 2/28/13 in Conjunction with St. Paul Public Libraries

SPPL hosted A.S. King this February as part of their "Read Brave: Read, Respond, Engage" program. (Click on the 'Read Brave' logo below for info on their website). Three of the events were open to the public: Wednesday, Feb. 27th from 10:00 AM-12:00 PM at the Avalon School (700 Glendale St., St. Paul) and 6-7:30 PM, a speaking event at the Merriam Park Library (1831 Marshall Ave., St. Paul). Thursday, Feb. 28th 4-6 PM at the Rice Street Teen Zone (1022 Marion St., St. Paul). Addendum sold King's books at all the events. We have signed copies of her books at our store!
