Today we had Rachel Gold and Kirstin Cronn-Mills join us at Addendum. Both authors were nominated for the Lambda Literary Awards this year for their books Being Emily and Beautiful Music for Ugly Children, respectively.
The Lambda Literary Awards celebrate achievement in lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) writing.
Both books are about transgender teens, and each author read an excerpt from her book, and then we had a discussion about the books, transgender teens in YA lit, and more!

Today we sold books at the Burnsville Performing Arts Center for the 2013 Rhythm and Words Festival in conjunction with the Dakota County Library.
There were four featured authors/illustrators, and four featured bands, as well as all kinds of musical, craft, and book-related activities for families to participate in.
The first musical act was The Bazillions.
Curious George visited with guests!
Stephanie Watson read her upcoming picture book, The Wee Hours. (Stephanie is also the author of Elvis and Olive, and Elvis and Olive: Super Detectives).
Kids colored in clocks and drew in the hands for their favorite time of day.
Next up - the Okee Dokee Brothers!
The Okee Dokee Brothers signed CDs (and shirts!) after their performance.
Author/illustrator Cori Doerrfeld showed a crowd how to make different animals and emotions. Her newest book is Little Bunny Foo Foo: The REAL Story.
After her presentation, Cori signed books and drew characters for her fans.
This adorable monster was drawn especially for Addendum Books!
Sarah Forss, half of the team behind Alphabeasties, Bugs by the Numbers, and Alphasaurs, read from her book and then lead kids in an Alphasaur activity.
Paul Spring played next on the stage.
Arts and crafts activities were available throughout the day.
Making musical instruments!
Gustafer Yellowgold was the last musical act of the day.
Michael Hall read his book Cat Tale. He is also the author/illustrator of My Heart is Like a Zoo and Perfect Square.
For their activity, kids got to choose which heart-shaped animal they wanted to make.
After his presentation, Michael Hall signed books and took photos with fans.
He took the time to draw an original illustration in each book he signed.
Find signed books by these authors (and more!) at Addendum if you weren't able to attend Rhythm and Words!
